trip part 1

sooooo.....

it's been a while since i have blogged. i have been trying the past few days to upload different videos of the little man with no success, so i will just post some pics.

this past week has brought our family to kansas. it's been great to be in a new environment and seek out new adventures. not to mention that i dont have to clean the house or make big meals. can't complain about that.

let me tell you about erik and me and our day of travel over here. it was supposed to go smooth sailing, a drive to the airport with our friends, a nonstop flight, linds would pick us up and we would be on our way. That is NOT how the day went. Luckily I must have had some major stars aligning because the whole day I had major calm mommy emotions that helped me stay in a good frame of mind and take it all in stride. Yes, i am patting myself on the back.

here were the events of the day........

1. get to the airport safe and sound and on time--check-no problem there

2. get through security-check

3. get to the gate to realize the flight has been delayed two hours-gulp, that sucks but nothing i can't handle.

4. 45 minutes later the flight is delayed an extra two hours on top of that. YIKES, go to the counter ask to be put on another carriers flight. told no........give the "i am traveling with a young child, i only have so many diapers, etc." spiel and still told no. all they could tell me was that they would let me get into my checked baggage to get more if i needed them. good thing i put extra in there cause my plan was to buy diapers once we got to kansas.

5. after spending over 50 bucks for food and things for the little man and myself over the 6 hours we waited just to board. we were doing well. little man was loving walking around, being strolled around and watching people. FINALLY we board.....and find out that it wasn't weather but the plane had broke and needed fixing before we could leave.

6. a three hour flight, erik does great........sleeps, wiggles in my lap, plays prince charming with surrounding passengers.

7. last 45 minutes of the flight 2 MAJOR things happen

1- erik blows out his diaper to the poin the only thing i can put back on him is his tee shirt. luckily his blanket remained unscathed. we were landing in below freezing weather mind you. i couldn't even put his socks back on him. the flight attendant didnt want to let me in the bathroom because of turbulance but i am pretty sure that she would not want to clean up that nastiness off her upholstered seats. of course i dont have a change of clothes on me, he never blows out anymore. after we landed i changed him into pj's from our suitcase.
2. withing ten minutes of that escapade my whole section of the plane start looking at each other beacuse we all started to smell smoke. now let me tell you, i don't easily panic. i don't easily freak out and actually tend to get more calm in crisis mode. a gift i think and also some ingrained training from my days as a crisis response worker in a call center that dealt with mentally ill people, suicide callers, etc. in that moment i remained calm on the outside, held erik a little tighter, and started thinking about what would happen to lindsay if we both passed away. I said a prayer and hoped that we could make a good landing. Turns out the flight attendants were not worried and didn't do much. The only thing they thought it was was that someone had lit a match in the plane but found no evidence. great.......................we did land safely and i am now very worried to fly back on that airline.

thumbs down for midwest airlines!

on a better note the moon fam is livin it up in kansas and erik loved the science museum we went to yesterday. pictures of that to follow soon.

I'm glad you made it okay and are having fun. That delay sounds awful. Can you imagine if you were bottle feeding him still what would happen if you were stuck in the airport for hours?? Horrible.

Wow that is so traumatic, and a long time in the airport! Your calm reaction probably helped Erik stay calm too.
